WEDNESDAY, 21ST JUNE, 2017 THEME: ARE YOU NOT CARNAL?
Christ is our cornerstone Carnality simply means worldliness as opposed to spiritual life. Galatians 5:16-26 extensively deals with the issue of carnality and spiritual life, which are opposed to each other. As at the time of St. Paul, this was one of the major hindrances to church growth. Formation of cliques and factions in the church, for selfish reasons, has become a challenge even in our generation.
God is calling us to repentance as a church and the solution is to place less emphasis on mundane things and be spiritually-minded. We need to re–examine the reasons behind every action we take to ensure we are still heaven-bound, for no unrighteous person shall inherit the Kingdom of God (1 Cor. 6: 9 – 10).
Do you partake in a Church’s programme because one ‘powerful man’ of God is featuring? Some now ascribe glory to workers of miracles instead of God who endowed them with the spiritual gift. Some Christians now engage in spiritual harlotry, running from one denomination to another in search of miracles and some so-called great men of God, a practice well known in divination among idol worshipers and in sorcery. Some of these so-called ‘Men of God’ even seek help from herbalists and diviners!
The scripture records that there are diverse spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; all these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills (1 Cor. 12: 4; 11). Have you identified your own gift(s) and have you tried to develop it (them) or are you running from pillar to post in search of powerful men of God or soothsayers for personal benefit? It is high time someone tarries before the Lord and realize his or her worth in Christ Jesus rather than continuing to be a baby and carnal Christian.
Are you tribally inclined such that no person does it well except he comes from your ethnic group? What is the motive behind the office you seek to hold in the church or society and what is the motive behind your giving to humanity and the church? Hear this: walk in the Spirit and you will see the glory of God even in the least service you render both in the Church and in society.
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Cor. 3:4 – For when one says, “I belong to Paul”, and another, “I belong to Apollos,” are you not merely men (carnal)?
PRAYER: My Father and my God, create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me in the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
